Katia Cueto Midterm Proposal

Project Proposal: Me Too Movement

The main topic of my project is to address the importance of the Me too Movement which is sexual crimes against woman. My project will consist of an online magazine that will provide all the knowledge of what is the Me-Too Movement and information that can help both victims and general public that have been through sexual abuse. The ‘’Me too” movement was founded in 2006 to help survivors of sexual violence, particularly Black women and girls, and other young women of color from low wealth communities, find pathways to healing
sexual harassment and sexual assault consist of unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. Legally, sexual harassment in the workplace is covered under the Civil Rights Act of 1964. preventing sexual assault is just a matter of standing up at the right time. There are several things anyone can do to help prevent sexual harassment. Employers should focus on creating  sexual harassment policies, identifying inappropriate behaviors, and giving employees the tools, they need to report instances of sexual harassment in the workplace. Companies can also provide sexual harassment training to employees. The educational system should also implement policies that protect sexual harassment victims and create resources on campus that may help those affected by an abuse.
Most sexual assault victims are younger people, with 54% of victims falling between 18 and 34 years of age. Women and young girls are the most frequent victims of sexual violence; 82% of all juvenile victims of sexual assault are female, while 90% of adult rape victims are female.
According to the National Women’s Law Center, black women experience sexual harassment in the workplace at nearly three times the rate of white women.
As someone who is pursuing the criminal justice career, my focus is on special victims and family studies. I think that sexual crimes go unreported and are not being solved correctly by the justice systems. Movements like the “Me Too Movement” is way to bring awareness and strategies on how to reduce the unsolved sex crimes. I decided to create an online blog/magazine that will allow people to express their own stories, seek information, and find strategies on how to stay aware and protect themselves when facing an assault.

Bill Cosby, Harvein Weinstein, and Larry Nassar have all. Been convicted to sexual assault due to the Me-Too Movement.
