Two readings Luis Pacheco
Reading: John Berger Ways of Seeing Ch7
“It is important here not to confuse publicity with the pleasure or benefits to be enjoyed from the things it advertises.” pg 132
Response: This demonstrates, there are many things and materials in public society today that would give a great impression to the people, however many would beg to differ. With the true testing of a product or item that would even be on the top of the market, such as creams and oils to “promote skin” or “hydrate and give you a younger look” society itself would argue. With the advertisements having women who weren’t of color, they could hide the fake effect behind makeup and filters, however, once it comes time to treat your own skin, the results are nonexistent.
“The purpose of publicity is to make the spectator marginally dissatisfied with his present way of life.” Pg142
Response: This quote shows how publicity and advertisements would cause one to look down at himself and think his or her life would be better with whatever the seller is selling and can’t live without it.
Reading: Photography, Susan Sontag
“While a painting or a prose description can never be other than a narrowly selective interpretation, a photograph can be treated as a narrowly selective transparency. But despite the presumption of veracity that gives all photographs authority, interest, seductiveness, the work that photographers do is no generic exception to the usually shady commerce between art and truth..”
Response: This means that even though paintings could illustrate events happening pictures could explain it much better and it's also a true art ad real
“Photographs furnish evidence. Something we hear about, but doubt, seems proven when we're shown a photograph of it. In one version of its utility, the camera record incriminates.”
Response: Photograph could be such an amazing way to show evidence and also point out things that are not obvious.

Who do you think you are?
In today’s age the media have become more impactful in our modern lives than anything else and those effects that the media have on the population is way more negative than positive. For the last two decades we've seen a huge growth on media usage and it has not yet reached it’s peak. Communication have lost it’s value, research have become less important, and the youth is no longer thinking for themselves. The media have put an imaginary line between us and we’re all are victims of it, millennials especially. I myself is not an expectation of the tole media have taken on us. Although, I question and don't always believe what I see in the media it does influence my day to day life.
The media have shaped the way we think, view ourselves, the world and others around us. According to a report done by the royal society for public health “social media usage is associated with increased rates of depression, anxiety, depression, body image issues and cyberbullying.” In the past two decades rates of anxiety in the younger generation have increased by seventy five percent and it is not a coincidence that millenials uses more social media than any other age group. Mass media maker uses manipulation strategies to control the public consumers. John berger in “Ways of Seeing” talks about the negative effect that publicity has on consumers and how media makers feed off of their consumers in order to keep showing them content that will continuously keep them interested. Our growing and unchecked obsession with the media is intentional. Media makers uses data collected literally by spying on the public. These manipulation tactics have been used for years and continue to improve. The media creates diversion, in order to keep viewers misinformed.
The media can be beneficial in many ways if used properly. it can be solved as a learning tool and also to help people make strikes. Black twitter is a platform created back in 2006, since then it has been an innovative tool used for communication, building, laughing and addressing political issues. The hashtags have been used by africans americans to connect on different levels. The #MeToo movement highlightsg frequency of sexual violence and harrasement and is an example od aa black activist innotiatve becoming widly Used throughout twitter and larger culture.

I believe I am human being that is developing to figure out who I am personally, but I know I want to be successful in life and and make difference in the future. Honestly, I am not quite sure on what is my role for media consumption yet. I believe a great mass of our common experience is involved in the media, event, and etc. For example, I seen a program or event on Instagram that caught my attention and made me want to attend. Therefore, me attending the program got myself involved in activities in school. Furthermore, seeing a graphic images of pollution that are killing made people felt heartbroken. As an result, it made people stop throwing out their trash in the ocean or the sea.
Moreover, there are ways on how the media can cover activists such as writing a news, interviews, contacting the radio. Truly, having a relationship with the media can be good and bad. It can beneficial because it gives you opportunities and brings attention to something important. On the other hand, it can be an disadvantage because people like to take advantage and bring conflict. It is kind of risk dealing with the media because everything will be known and you can't take it back.
Writing the news is an attention grabber for the people. Folks love reading news paper and that's where one place they would try to look for information. Also, interviews gives more details. Interviews explain more and goes straight to the point. Last but not least, contacting the radio help reach millions of individuals.
To sum up, the media is a powerful source to use if you want to promote anything. With the media you can grab attention to anyone. It stores a lot of data and information. Without the media, we would be clueless and in our thoughts all the time.

Luis Pacheco First Assignment.
Hello, my name is Luis Pacheco, I believe that I do have a big
role in social media consumption. I do many things on social media. For example,
I watch mostly every movie, show or documentary on my phone using, Netflix, Hulu,
and even sometimes Facebook. I could say that I am a little bit of social media
addict because I could not get off it. I do not just use social media to
browse, I also use it to speak to my family members who are not close to me or
in another country. I remember when life was social media less and people were
able to have more face to face conversations, and kids were spending more time
at playgrounds, now kids at two years of age know how to manage an iPhone which
is speechless. This has also become very powerful not only on children but in
teenagers and adults.
I am a big role in social media consumption, I am all about social
media. From the moment I wake up until I go to sleep, I am stuck to social
media, which is bad. I feel like I am on social media for the worst of it
because, I don't ever watch the news, anything that is related to politics or
even informative aspects. I am more on social media for the fun of it. Also,
because I want to start my own project of the start of my modelling career. I
also use social media to post my achievements well, more to brag about it a
little, just so I would feel good.
There are many ways that media covers activists,
acts of resistance and protest. There are many ways that media covers
activists, acts of resistance and protest. I believe social media does have a lot to do with
politics, I personally do not get involved with it because it is not my cup of
tea. I prefer more entertainment and a little gossip. Just because I do not
follow up on politics that usually, it does not mean that I am completely
clueless on what's going on in the world. Activist a person who campaigns to bring about political or social change, I
believe many people rather explode about their opinions as a group
rather than alone because they want to be heard and I believe that they will be
heard if they do protest or come together. For example, #metoo movement, which
is a social media movement that began to spread
virally in October 2017 as a hashtag on social media to demonstrate the
widespread prevalence of sexual assault and harassment, especially in the
workplace. It followed sexual-abuse allegations against Harvey Weinstein.
I believe that the media does help activist, act of
resistance and protest. Thanks to social media, social media consumers can join
groups that believe in the same thing they believe in or are protesting for.
These people could gather up or even talk about it through social media. If
they come together as a group or a movement like the #metoo movement, they will
be heard like this movement did and it's very successful. I feel like media can
be a good and bad relationship to activist or act of resistance. I believe this
way because there are other people who like to bring others with their comments
or just by giving their opinion or how they feel about the situation. For
example, I am part of the #LGBTQ community. I know there are people that do not
accept this community, there's nothing I could do because that's their opinion
and there are plenty of different points of view. Unless there are very
negative comments that would harm other, I would not say anything.
Intro Blog Assignment
Generally, I believe that the media has a major impact on every person. The fact that it is essentially everywhere (i.e on our phones, the Tv, computers etc) guarantees that whatever messages it’s trying to spread will .Honestly speaking; i feel that i am estranged from a majority of media, yes i do surf the web and read up on some interesting stories/news sometimes, but these encounters are few and far between. As for the creation of media: assuming that this means things such as posting on forums and such then no i have not been creating media. However if this is more generally speaking then yes i do believe that i help create media; because on the rare occasion that I find some interesting topic or story I will spread the word about, albeit mainly to my friends and family.
As said before if I don't find anything interesting then my best source of media consumption comes from those close to me. My friends enjoy more satirical forms of media i.e memes, jokes, etc, and would bombard our group chat with non-stop pictures and links to funny(?) videos. My family lays on the whole other side of the spectrum. They are avid watchers of the news, and rugged spelunkers of facebook posts. In fact the very first time the tragic death of Kobe Bryant reached me was through my parents telling me about it when I came home from classes. In short, I don't really see myself as an avid participant in the affairs/stories of the media, but I do listen to the things I find interesting.
Unto the topic of Activists and how the media reacts to them. Honestly speaking my knowledge pertaining to these things are rather limited so many of the information I will provide will come from another source. The media has a massive hold on the general public’s views and interpretations, for it is they who decide what to show and how to show it. For example, there can be a large scale protest for equal pay for all employees in a company, this is the truth of it but media representation may tell a different story; “a mob of insatiable workers continues to refuse to work unless they receive double their already increased wage” or something along those lines. Perception, that is where I believe the majority of the media’s power over activists and protestors lie.
Honestly, i find it rather terrifying. Imagine pushing for a change that could very well benefit everyone, only to be demonized by a faceless entity which can change how everyone views you. It can turn friends to enemies, and family to distant relatives. There is an intrinsic risk when one advocates a cause that demands a lot of changes from entities like the government or society in general, the risk of isolation, rejection, defamation, etc, but that is why i believe it is so important to take it. I commend each and every one of those individuals who stand up for positive change/a positive cause, because if they don’t who will? Activism was born to inspire others which eventually leads to change.

First Assignment
Hello, my name is Stefano Holguin and my role in media consumption is relatively significant. I can say that my intake of media and production of media is of greater quantity than average. However, my main intake of media revolves around the film industry. From sharing my thoughts on movies and sharing movie news, such as studio announcements and other movie related news, my intake in this is a lot.
I believe our common experience involves shared mass media in large quantities. The age of social media is a heavy factor in making that so. The constant sharing, retweeting, etc. allow for us to consume media in a variety of different ways and allows for people to see what is going on in major events and other stories in our lives. For example, memes are everywhere, and although memes are used to make light of certain topics, the spreading of memes can also let someone know about an ongoing situation; ie. memes about an on-pending World War 3 and a possible draft.
The media covers activists, acts of resistance, and protests in a very divisive way. I believe that our country is in a very divisive time and that is in main part of the media. Issues that affect every American and frankly every person in the world is made into a bi-partisan issue, which causes the divide. A lot of the media outlets feel obligated to choose a side rather than to report the news as unbiased as possible. Therefore, you have an image on activism that on one side seems like a powerful way to create action and conversation, while you have the other side demonizing these acts of resistance and protests, creating an image of negativity.
For example, about a year ago the media reported about a stand off between a Native American protestor and a white student outside of the Lincoln Memorial. When this was reported widespread outrage began against the white student, not only because he was white but because he was wearing a a MAGA hat while the situation occured. and again a divide on the situation began. In the end the situation was made more than of what it was and a teenager was framed for being disrespectful when in actual case the Native American and the white kid were both in the wrong, as well as an outside group that was harrasing the students.

First Assignment
Hi name is Fady Habib I believe that my role in media
consumption is Facebook and snapshot. Facebook has to come online daily
and go through their feed which covers a daily dose of news content and updates
from their friends. Sometimes, they upload photos of their trips and comment on
existing stuff. Also it help you remember my friends’ birthday.
Honestly, this is one of the three reasons I use Facebook. I
can’t remember the birthdays. In fact, not just me, it’s hard for many people
to do so. You require a great memory to remember who was born on which day when
you have friends from school, college, work, your relatives, and the list goes on.
Also sometimes I like to write down a comment
There are people who consider it a moral obligation to write
comments and like photos and status updates of the people in their friend list.
Some write it genuinely and some of our friends tap their own backs after
dropping comment bombs. Your most-liked profile picture gets ruined by that single
comment from your best buddy. And the worst part is that other people also
contribute their analysis of your picture. I want to remain connected with my
friends and family
There are people who use Facebook for the original cause
it was meant for, to connect with people. We have old friends staying in
different parts of the country or even across the globe. The existence of
a platform like Facebook has helped billions of people to get in touch
with their family and friends. I got the opportunity to talk to my friend after
10 years of no contact.
As a result of online networking individuals can join
bunches that have confidence in something very similar. They can discuss it or
even have a gathering. At the point when they join for what they accept their
message would be paid attention to additional. I feel like media can be a
decent and awful relationship to extremist or demonstration of obstruction. I
do accept that media can be a constructive relationship to extremist and
dissenting if the individuals aren't harming others to send the message.
